Defining “Imitation of Life” (IOL)… (improvisational theater training for young people)
The general objectives of “Imitation of Life Fine Arts In Prevention Training” (IOL) are these:
- To introduce elements of improvisational theater coupled with prevention best practices into a school environment as a strategy for parlaying real and imagined experiences into entertaining and effective teaching tools;
- To take advantage of the power of peer influence by engaging a group of interested, creative and energetic students and one or two adult sponsors to use peer influence for positive purposes;
- To establish the IOL paradigm as an on-going practice in the school that can be replicated for positive effect as long as there are interested students and sponsors willing to make a positive impact on the school environment; and
- To positively impact academic goals by using the proven effectiveness of the arts as an enhancement to educational outcomes.
